This is the first desktop PC incorporating a touch-screen that HP has produced. In fact, it's one of only a few home PCs anybody has produced with a touch-screen. To make this technology worth having, the computer itself has had to be completely rethought. In the process, HP has produced a radically different media PC in the TouchSmart IQ770. |

Over the years many of them merged or were bought out by larger competitors, while others were just rubbish and rightly went the way of the dodo. With nVidia launching the GeForce 8600 GTS card today, Scan sent us over a PC incorporating nVidia’s new baby this morning. We generally prefer a bit more notice than a few hours with a review sample, but I thought that this machine was worth making an exception for. |

It’s well over a year since we last looked at a PC from Gateway. Back then Gateway had just recently made a return to the UK after a leave of absence. During this time Gateway had retreated from all international markets in order to refocus and consolidate the company. Upon returning to the UK, Gateway decided not deal with UK customers directly but rather to sell in bulk to large high street retailers like Dixons, Comet, and Tesco. This allowed it to keep overheads at a minimum while still ensuring the widest possible coverage – quite cunning really. The result is that if you look for a Gateway PC anywhere else, online or on your high street, you won’t have much luck. Instead you’ll be forced to visit your nearest out-of-town retail park to pick one up. Well, that or visit the shop’s website. |

A couple of weeks ago I reviewed the dc7700p from HP. It was the first vPro enabled computer I’d had the chance to look at and I was impressed by both its performance and the potential provided by the vPro technology. Now another stalwart of the business PC market, NEC, has provided us with its take on the vPro platform, the Powermate ML460 Pro. |

Windows Vista is finally here and, whichever way you look at it, it’s going to become the standard operating system for the majority of the computer buying public over the next few years, whether they like it or not. Why? Because most people don’t buy computers in dribs and drabs, they get the whole lot all at once with an operating system included and, soon enough, most systems will come with Vista preinstalled. And, right on time, Evesham has provided us with a sample of its first Vista system. |
