The name of this Acer Media Center system, the Idea 500, is actually very apt. Despite having been around for some years now, the Media Center platform is still a niche product and are yet to register on the radar of the average consumer. Recently I discovered that PC World is offering a home cinema installation service based on Media Center systems so with that kind of exposure things might change. Right now though, Media Center is still much more likely to be bought by the PC savvy consumer. That said, if you had the Acer Idea 500 under your TV, most people would probably have no idea that it was a PC. |

Earlier this week we looked at Shuttle’s SN27P2 barebones and at over £300 we thought it a touch too expensive. If you agreed with this, then you should cease your lamenting and have a peek at Shuttle’s budget AM2 barebones instead. |

All Shuttle really had to do was replicate the SN27P2, but with a chipset that would support Core 2 Duo. Instead, we got the SD37P2. |

For some time now we’ve been telling people that when it comes to computers – small is the new big. By now, Small Form Factor (SFF) systems were supposed to have replaced the towering behemoths that currently take up space in most people’s offices. Shuttle was the first to introduce these type of systems with its XPS line but they haven’t managed to attain the widespread popularity expected of them. |

The path to the Dell XPS PC that’s on the desk in front of me has been long. Riyad first sighted it out at E3 back in May and came back to the office raving about the new case that Dell had chosen for its latest XPS machine. Dell did start shipping the system in July in the US, powered by an Intel Pentium D based Extreme Edition CPU. Now Core 2 Duo is here and the XPS 700 we have been sent is powered by an E6700 Core 2 Duo running at 2.66Ghz. Confusingly though, at the time of writing if you go to the initial XPS details page on the Dell website it still advertises it as featuring a Pentium Extreme Edition. |

Our latest system review comes from a company that needs no introduction. Dell sent us their XPS 410 desktop system for review, and we are interested to see how a PC designed by the largest system integrator compares to the other offerings on the market. Being number one also makes you the biggest target, both for competitors as well as critics; people love to hate the top dogs. Sometimes those feelings are warranted, other times they stem from jealousy or other sources. We're here to put feelings aside and take a hard look at what Dell has on offer. |

We recently looked at the ABS Ultimate X9 computer system and found it to be a fast but expensive system, as well as having some niggling stability issues related to the GPU water cooling. Other than the stability concerns, there was one major problem with the system for most of our readers: it's too expensive. If $4000 or more is way out of your league for computer prices, today's review will hopefully return to the realm of the possible. |
