Today, however, things are pretty different. As computers become more and more commonplace, average people are starting to be more concerned with concepts such as airflow patterns, better heat-dissipating materials, or sound-dampening drive mounts - all things increasingly needed to keep today's high-wattage powerhouses cool and quiet. |

XG, short for "Extreme Gamer," targeted the "hardcore PC gamer" audience while ione focused on providing more-civilized products for "everyday lifestyles from the home to the office." |

About a year ago I met with Elan Raja - one of the Directors of Scan - and he told me that he had big plans for the system building arm of the company. Elan told me that he didn't want to be building bog standard PCs - there were enough companies doing that, he wanted to create something different, something special, something desirable. Sitting in front of me right now is the fruit of Elan's labour and I have to say that it certainly lives up to his vision. |

Every once in a while, a new product so different enters the computer market such that we actually have to deviate a bit from our normal article categories just to write about it. Since the summary of this article on the front page has already given away the fact that this is about a computer workstation, it is plausible that one would think, "but there is nothing new about desks...they have been around for a very long time." This is most certainly true to an extent, but the Lian Li F1 and F2 are not your average computer desks by any stretch of the imagination. |

The last time I reviewed a tower case, I was disappointed that the aluminium used for its attractive front fascia wasn’t then also used for the rest of the chassis. Thankfully that’s not the case (excuse the pun) with the Praetorian 731 – one of the latest boxes from the PC builder’s favourite, Cooler Master. |

Finding the right case in which to build your PC is never easy. The first question you need to ask yourself is whether you want a small form factor box or tower, and if you go for the latter, the choice is positively dizzying. AOpen has been making system cases and the components that go inside them for a very long time, so I fully expected the Nouveau to be a shining example of case design and construction. Unfortunately, those expectations proved to be unfounded, and although the Nouveau sports some solid features, it also exhibits some poor design attributes. |

I've got a bad feeling about this, I thought to myself when I first heard that Alienware was going to build a Star Wars branded PC. The problem is that I know how much licenses like these cost, not only does my wife work in licensing, but she actually used to work in licensing for LucasFilm. Believe me, Mr Lucas knows all too well the power of his brand, and he's never likely to undervalue it. That said, if any PC company could construct a Star Wars box that looked great and could make point five past light speed, it's Alienware. |
