Back in March we looked at the Samsung Aura R20 notebook, which provided staggeringly good value for money, as well as a shiny black finish that belied its budget roots. Back then I was aware that there was more to come from the Aura range, and today, in line with the launch of Intel’s new Santa Rosa platform, I’m casting my eye over the new R70. This particular article will however be a preview, since the R70 in my possession is a very early sample, sent directly from Korea – I will be writing a full review of the UK retail spec machine in the next couple of weeks. |

It has been just over a year since we first looked at Dell's XPS M1710 notebook. When we initially reviewed it, it sported the fastest currently available Intel mobile processor, the Core Duo T2600 (2.16 GHz). It also included NVIDIA's at the time sparkling new GeForce Go 7900 GTX graphics chip. Naturally, the result was some of the fastest performance we had ever seen from a gaming notebook. One downside was that the price was equally high, but when you look at the various gaming oriented notebooks that are available the XPS M1710 remains competitive. |

Asus is always one of the first to integrate new technologies, for the simple fact that it either helps design or create so much of it. As such then, it's no surprise to see its logo on the first notebook we've seen in the labs featuring Windows Sideshow. Sideshow is a Windows Vista only technology that uses an external screen on the laptop lid to let you gain access to your email, music and other content, without having to turn on your machine. |

Until recently, if you wanted to overclock your laptop, you needed one with a desktop CPU. Those were pretty common in the Pentium 4 days, but we've seen fewer of them since the advent of the mobile Core 2 Duo CPUs, originally code-named Merom. A few OEMs expose settings in their BIOS setups that allow you to tweak FSB speeds, but those are pretty rare, and the clock multiplier has remained locked. |

The rugged notebook market has long been ruled by Panasonic and its ToughBook range, and with good reason. Panasonic saw a gap in the market and created notebooks that could survive pretty much anything in order to fill it. But now it appears as though Panasonic won't have the rugged market to itself anymore with Dell throwing its hat into the ring. |
